UPDATE 6/23/2020: The community response from this list of Black owned businesses in Ohio has been incredible! This post has been featured in The Canton Repository and mentioned in USA Today! I’ve already added over 80 more businesses to this list, and now we are close to 350! I will continue to update this list daily, so please keep sending in your recommendations! I’ve already received messages from business owners on this list that it has positively impacted their business in some way, and that makes all the hours of work and research, worth it! ORIGINAL POST: If 2020 has exposed anything, it’s that racial discrimination is intrinsically ingrained in our cultural foundation. To be clear, Black folx already knew this. But for many people around the country, they had no idea how deep it actually went. Or worse, they knew and turned a blind eye to it anyway. Sadly, it took Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd’s consecutive murders to realize that this country’s racial issues go much deeper than the occasional racial profiling or “isolated” act of police brutality. Racism has revealed itself in every system and structure from coast to coast, but especially in the sustainability of Black-Owned small businesses.

Between the state mandated closures of businesses due to COVID-19, which we already know is disproportionately affecting Black communities, and the existing economic disparities for Black-Owned small businesses, it is up to us to ensure the sustainability and long-term success for them. It’s become clear that we, the people, must support our Black-owned small businesses, so I’ve created a directory of Black-Owned small businesses in Ohio. I will be updating this list as I discover new Black-Owned small businesses in Ohio. If you have suggestions for businesses to add, send me a message!
